There are several ways to give*Cash GiftsCash gifts are important to sustain the daily operations of the PRC. Many donors give gifts in honor of memory of a friend or loved one. Unless you specify otherwise, cash gifts are acknowledged in our bi-monthly newsletter. Please check with your company's human resources department to see if your gift will qualify for a matching corporate donation. You may donate on-line, or print a donation from and mail or fax your donation information to us. Washington State Combined Fund Drive and United WayThe PRC is currently listed on the Washington State Combined Fund Drive charities list as "330296 - Parkinson's Resource Center of Spokane", and you can specify the PRC in your United Way gift using our information above. Contact us if you need assistance. Gifts of SecuritiesGifts of appreciated securities that have been in your possession for more than one year may allow you to avoid capital gains tax as well as receive a tax deduction for the full appreciated value of the stock. A gift of stock that has depreciated in value may allow a charitable deduction of the value of the stock, and you may still deduct the depreciation as a loss, subject to annual limits. In most cases, undeducted losses may be carried forward. Life Insurance PoliciesLife insurance can be an easy and flexible way to make an important gift to PRC. Do you own an old policy that has outlived its original purpose such as for a spouse who no longer needs it, or a child who is financially independent? You may be able to deduct either the value of the paid-up insurance or your cost bases, and the proceeds do not become part of your estate. If you purchase a new policy specifically to benefit PRC, you may be able to make a much larger gift than would otherwise be possible during your lifetime. Planned Gifts and BequestsIf your discussions with an attorney or other independent professional advisor suggest that a planned gift to charity would be a desirable element of your estate planning, please consider the PRC. Some complex trusts are easily managed by larger charities, such as universities. In some cases, these charities will allow you to name more than one beneficiary of your trust and will provide a share of the trust to smaller charities such as the PRC. Real Estate, Automobiles, and Other Non-cash GiftsPlease contact us directly if you are interested in donating real estate, automobiles, or other non-cash gifts. Donor-advised FundsIf you have established a donor-advised fund, or know someone who has, please ask yourself or your friend to consider the PRC. *Donors should seek advice from an attorney, accountant, or other qualified independent advisor concerning the deductibility or tax liability implications of any gift.
